Healthy Coffee Recipes

Is there anything better than starting your day with a creamy cup of coffee?

Put some pep in your step with one of these easy, delicious recipes, which all contain coffee as the star ingredient. By Nutritionist and GoodnessMe Box Health Editor Melissa Fine.

Iced Mocha

I love a hot coffee in the colder months, but with summer coming up, this is the perfect coffee to cool you down and wake you up. The cacao bumps up the antioxidant content of this too.

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee (we like República’s freeze dried coffee – organic, fair trade and carbon neutral) OR 1 shot of coffee
  • 1 heaped teaspoon cacao powder
  • 1 teaspoon coconut sugar or rice malt syrup OR 1-2 drops stevia for a sugar free option
  • 2/3 Cup milk of choice (I use a coconut and rice milk blend)
  • 6 ice cubes

Method

  1. Add everything to a blender.
  2. Cover and blend until smooth and frothy.
  3. Pour into a tall glass, wine glass or jar and drink up.

Coffee Breakfast Smoothie

A creamy, caffeinated concoction to get you moving in the morning. High in filling fibre and healthy fats, this should sustain you for several hours.

Ingredients

  • 1 medium, very ripe banana, frozen – peel and cut into chunks before freezing
  • 1/2-2/3 Cup milk of choice (I like this with almond or coconut milk)
  • 1 Tablespoon natural almond butter
  • 1 Medjool date, pitted
  • 1 teaspoon República freeze dried coffee OR 1 shot of coffee
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds
  • pinch cinnamon
  • 6 ice cubes

Method

  1. Add everything to a blender.
  2. Cover and blend until smooth and combined. This should be nice and thick.
  3. Pour into a tall glass, or better yet a bowl and eat with a spoon.

Cocoa & Coffee Porridge

We can’t get enough of this flavour combination at GoodnessMe Box HQ. I love how this recipe seems decadent, yet is actually really wholesome.

Ingredients
  • 1/3 Cup traditional rolled oats
  • 1/3 Cup water
  • 1/3 Cup milk of choice
  • 1 teaspoon República freeze dried coffee
  • 1 teaspoon 100% cocoa or cacao powder
  • 1 teaspoon rice malt syrup OR 1-2 drops stevia for a sugar free option
  • ½ a medium banana, mashed (a riper, slightly spotty banana will yield a sweeter, creamier porridge)
  • 1 Tablespoon raw almonds, chopped OR 1 Tablespoon natural almond butter
  • 1 teaspoon shredded coconut (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cacao nibs (optional)
  • tiny pinch salt
Method
  1. Combine the oats, water, milk, coffee, cocoa/cacao and salt in a small pot on full heat.
  2. Bring to the boil and then reduce to medium heat before adding the banana and sweetener. Stir the mixture a few times to make sure the coffee granules have dissolved and everything is evenly distributed.
  3. Once the mixture has thickened up and heated through, your oats are ready.
  4. Pour into a pretty bowl and top with almonds for some crunch or almond butter for extra creaminess, along with the optional toppings if you’d like. Allow to cool for a few minutes before digging in and waking up.
