Five Minutes With: Sarah from Matcha Maiden

Sarah began her working life as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at a leading international law firm. While she enjoyed several years building strong professional foundations and invaluable business acumen, she found it increasingly challenging to reconcile the all-consuming corporate lifestyle with her personal passions for health, wellbeing, creativity and adventure. In pursuit of balance, Sarah and her partner started a creative side project in late 2014 capitalising on a gap they discovered in the health food market for matcha green tea powder. A year on, this vibrant green superfood is one of the world's premier health food trends and Matcha Maiden is leading the way with a growing community of over 1000 stockists, 70,000 social media followers and a very bright (green) future. Sarah has now hung up the suits and heels to step into the business full time and is thoroughly enjoying life as a full time funtrepreneur.

We were lucky enough to sit down with the lovely Sarah herself and take her through the paces asking a few quick questions we thought you may be itching to know. Here we go…

What food can you not live without? Almond butter

Favourite food joint? That’s such a tough one for a fanatical foodie like myself! Worldwide, I’d have to say Wholefoods. In Melbourne, Matcha Mylkbar (not biased at all).

Your go-to breakfast? Poached eggs, avocado, mushrooms, spinach and any other available sides – I LOVE a huge stack of eggs and sides.

First thing you do when you wake in the morning? Give our dog a cuddle.

Its date night. Your perfect restaurant would be? Nic cooking! It’s so rare!

You have a free plane ticket to anywhere in the world. You must be guided by your stomach. Where would you go and why? JAPAN! It’s my absolute favourite cuisine – there’s big, small, hot, cold, clean, heavy… It’s all so delicious!

The word Wholefood to you means.... Eating wholesome, natural, non-processed, non-artificial foods. Basically eating how our grandparents would have without giving it the fancy “clean eating” name.

Your favourite food memory is of..... We’ve done 40 countries together and most of our itinerary will always be structured around food adventures, so I don’t even know how to choose! Probably eating at the top of the Eiffel Tower or the Fat Duck in Melbourne.

Three health goals for this year? 1) Get more sleep 2) exercise more often (even if less intensely, consistency is key) 3) eat mindfully
